Understanding lost traffic

Learn how to discover traffic you're losing and how to set up redirects to capture it.

Updated over a week ago

The lost traffic feature enables you to see the traffic you're losing to 404 responses, and how to easily configure or ignore the URLs according to your business needs.

You can access this feature on the left side of the dashboard through clicking on lost traffic, or by clicking through (traffic without configured redirect) in the analytics redirects view.

You can easily link to visit the lost traffic URLs to confirm the destination. You are also able to sort by the most or least requested URL, get quick access to edit the source hostname settings, and create the applicable redirects. When creating a redirect from lost traffic, you cannot edit the source URL as it is an exact match of the lost traffic request.

If there are URLs that you might not be concerned with, (traffic coming from bots for example) then you can ignore them and they won't show up in this view anymore.

If you want to redirect all URLs on a host you would edit the source hostname and use the match not found setting to the desired fallback redirect.

There are batch actions and pagination that can be found in the second section from the top. This will show you how many rows you've selected in the rows below, and will display a drop down of actions you can perform against selected rows. You can create redirects or ignore redirects in this case.

Using the download lost traffic CSV button will allow for your lost traffic data to be downloaded by your selected date range (up to a maximum of 30 days) in a CSV format. The export will include URLs that are returning 404s along with the number of requests we have seen for it.
